INDIVIDUAL THERAPY SESSIONS

Everyone has struggles, but you don’t need to feel alone. Loss, fears, trauma, insecurities, unwanted behavioral or emotional patterns, relationship problems, occupational or academic issues, and troubling feelings (sadness, fears, loneliness, anger) or issues of self-esteem and confidence can sometimes be a part of life. Left untreated, these can blossom into more severe chronic conditions, such as depression, anxiety, or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Minerly can help you to better cope with these issues while working toward problem-solving strategies and solutions. She has received extensive training in a number of treatment modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), psychodynamic psychotherapy, trauma-informed psychodrama, and exposure therapies (i.e. systematic desensitization). Using an eclectic integrative approach, Dr. Minerly develops treatment based on the unique needs of each individual, and can serve children, adolescents, and adults of all ages and genders. She has experience with special populations, including individuals with developmental and/or intellectual/cognitive disabilities (i.e. autism, ADHD), those with cognitive decline and/or dementia, those struggling with addictions, survivors of sexual or inter-partner violence or childhood abuse, members of the LGBTQIA community, caregivers, active military personnel, veterans, chronically or terminally ill individuals, and others.

COUPLES AND RELATIONSHIP COUNSELING

Partnership can be lasting; harmony needs work and attention from time to time. Every couple goes through interpersonal or relationship issues at some point, whether they involve communication, intimacy, infidelity, illness, money, role changes, child-raising disagreements, or another problem. Dr. Minerly can help you and your partner to identify your concerns and navigate difficult emotional territory in a supportive environment, with the ultimate goal of developing and implementing problem-solving strategies.

Non-couple relationships, such as friendships, also often suffer from destructive emotional events such as competition, jealousy, inequality, abuse, and resentment. Since “relationship counseling” has historically been associated with romantic couples and marriage, friendships that are suffering from these and other recurring problems may leave the individuals involved feeling hopeless or with nowhere to turn for relief. Friendships can change over time; they can also benefit significantly from this specialized form of therapy. Dr. Minerly has successfully provided friendship therapy throughout her years of practice, providing a neutral, safe space for each individual to voice their concerns so that they may be heard and better understood by their friendship partner. Together, goals are identified and problem-solving strategies are developed.

FAMILY COUNSELING
Dr. Minerly has years of experience working with families, including those with children who endure developmental or intellectual/cognitive disabilities (here, Dr. Minerly's diagnostic testing expertise is particularly useful). Issues between family members are normal from time to time. They can also stem from events such as divorce, separation, loss, addiction, illness, role changes, and other sources of stress. Together, we can address and repair the suffering wrought by these events.

FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES

In addition to offering counseling services to individuals, couples, and families, Dr. Minerly can serve in a forensic capacity. She has worked bilingually at the interface of clinical psychology and the law. Assessment of competencies, child custody issues, and malpractice are some of the areas in which the courts require expert testimony. Dr. Minerly is prepared to discuss the specific needs of your counsel in this sphere. Particularly useful here are Dr. Minerly’s psychological testing and bilingual skills.

Dr. Minerly can perform psychological assessments in order to provide the necessary reports and forms for families seeking to establish legal guardianship of an individual with a disability (i.e. Article 17-A, Article 81).

In addition, Dr. Minerly has provided bilingual psychological and psychosocial evaluations for individuals who are incarcerated and suspected of having a previously undiagnosed developmental and/or intellectual disability. She has worked in conjunction with The Legal Aid Society and the New York State Institute on Disability in order to help serve the needs of this special population.
